If you’ve been here before, you’ll no doubt notice the new design. I’ve been playing with different design ideas for the past month and refining my requirements for the site. The old look always seemed a bit flat to me and there were elements I never could design to my satisfaction. Then, I recently discovered a new photo printing and order fulfillment company that I wanted to move to. This new company, called Fotomoto, offered things SmugMug didn’t, and cost less.
Unlike Smugmug, Fotomoto doesn’t host the pictures for you, that means they can offer their fulfillment and printing services for less cost to me (and I can in turn pass on). I really liked SmugMug, however, their yearly fee was quite substantial. In the end, I was paying for many features that I wasn’t using. And, while Fotomoto required that I host my image files myself, I was already paying for hosting space for the blog that could house the images. All that and I had a lot more control over the appearance of my store with Fotomoto. Which is also the “downside” of the move.
Since I have to control the appearance, I have to tweak it and design it myself. For that reason, the site is going to be in a state of flux for awhile. For now the “Gallery” page still points to the SmugMug page, however, I will soon switch them over to my new galleries. Once I do, you will be able to click the “Buy Print” button at the bottom to purchase prints. While I iron out the kinks in the design, things may look a bit odd. Pictures might not line up, design elements may seem misplaced, that sort of thing. Rest assured, however, none of this should affect any orders.
If you do encounter any problems with the site or orders, please drop me an email and let me know.
